What a crazy day it was today. After hearing from my local tackle store that the mackerels were on fire at 4 Beacons and M9 I couldn’t help it. Willy had predicted 10-15 knots.
I didn’t know whether to take the boat or the jetski. In the end, I chose the boat due to wanting to practice taking drone footage for my youtube channel. There was no way I’d launch and land on a jetski However luckily I chose the boat because Willy was wrong!
Leaving the ramp at almost 7 am I punched through the waves. Initially, the conditions were as predicted 10-15 however after passing mud island it turned to 15-25knots. By then it was way way too late to turn back. Remembering the forecast, predictions were that winds would be easing towards the afternoon I punched on. The skies were still foggy which caused me to overshoot 4 beacons for the sand hills. By the time I got to 4 beacons I was drenched wet from head to toe.
I anchored up at the 4 beacons for almost the whole day and monitored the fish finder for any signs of passing mackeral. Winds were too strong with waves often crashing over the bow. I dared not try re-anchoring anywhere else. I managed 4 mackies here with 2 released and two keepers.
Towards the afternoon winds did ease to 10knots. I made the most of it and moved around from 4 Beacons, M8, Measured Mile then eventually finished back at the ramp shortly after 3:30 pm.
I did manage to fly the drone. Landing it back on a boat that was bobbing up n down in the well. That was a hairy experience lol!
