Firstly, happy new year everyone! It’s also because of the new year that I decided to take my son out for some father and son bonding. Luan had been nagging me to take him fishing for a while now but I had always had declined. He used to complain that I go fishing too much hence I decided to keep him away from fishing altogether. However, after a lot of thought I decided to take him out for one type of fishing that he was unfamiliar with; fishing for threadies!
We left home just after tea and took our time stopping at 7 Eleven etc for hot chocolate and snacks. The ramp was extremely busy with cast netters everywhere. I joined the crowd for a good hour before managing enough livies.
We left the ramp shortly after 9pm. Tide was approaching hightide, not a tide I found fruitful for these threadies. I generally prefer fishing low tide. However I found myself wrong as the fish consistently hit the deck throughout the night. I only fought one while Luan fought the other three. He loved it. After landing 4 we had no bait left. I decided to finish up even though he wanted to get more livies and keep fishing for threadfin.
We finished up shortly after 1:30am. The total tally was 4 threadies, three catfish, and a stingray. We tried two times to release two of the threadies but they were too weak. They will be shared with my nonfishing neighbours including one fir his grandparents.
Luan thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I am sure next time I invite him to go he’ll drop everything and come running
