Little trip out today on the Brisbane River with my mate Pieter. Originally I had wanted to try the Broadwater or Hinze dam but the outboard had been playing up so decided to play it safe and hit up Brissie River instead. I won’t be taking the boat out again until I get it serviced.
Pieter and I sat around the port for a good 2hrs before getting a bite this morning. Our first fish was a nice bream landed by Pieter then another followed by myself. It was kingtide this morning so we knew the fish were hugging the bank. It however took us almost another 2hrs before we landed our next two fish; two squires within 10mins of each other.
Throughout the day despite the water looking invitingly fishy we struggled hardcore. We threw everything from cranks, vibes, splash prawns, poppers, pencils, blades, cranka crabs to various SP offerings without luck. Towards the afternoon however I snagged a good 50+ flattie on a zerek fishtrap. It was my first ever fish caught on a vibe. I was over the moon! We did try a good 45min using the fish finder to sound around and throw vibes along the deep wharves without any luck. I did get two small bumps though, not sure what they were.
Towards the arvo we decided to try the pipe lines to eventually finishing up in Boggy Creek. We landed another legal bream, 3 legal flatties and a trev in the creek there before we ran out of time. Unfortunately we left the fish biting as Pieter had to go home. We only kept the 3 flatties for dinner and released the rest. The breams were caught in close proximity to luggage point so we decided to stay safe n let them go.
We made the most of the session despite it being a bit quiet than usual. 🙂 Nice trip out in the window of bad weather.
